Neutered dog peeing/pooping everywhere: Is it the meds or surgery?

Pain after neutering does occur, and your vet can give you pain medication for him if they haven't already. After neutering, some dogs can be tired and want to rest a little more than usual. Keep an eye on the stitches where the surgery was done, and make sure they don't become red and swollen. Do not let your dog lick the stitches. Your dog likely didn't poop until this morning because they weren't allowed any food for 12 hours before the surgery, so they wouldn't have anything to poop out. Butt scooting can also indicate parasites, so if his worming isn't up to date, I would get worming tablets from your vet. If the incision site becomes red, swollen, and warm to the touch, I would contact your vet right away for an appointment. It is also okay to give your vet a call if you are concerned about your dog being in pain, and see what options they can give you for pain relief.

Yes it can be. Sirius had anesthesia, a surgical procedure and medications for pain. His routine was changed and his eating and drinking also. Most likely they gave him fluids during the procedure that can cause increased urination. Please go back to his housebreaking training. I recommend keeping him in a crate when you’re not home, and taking him out frequently for potty breaks. Reward him and praise him when he goes outside. When you’re home keep Sirius on a leash with you so he’ll ask when he needs to go, and he can’t sneak off somewhere and mess in the house. It's been about 10 days since Murphy's surgery, so he should be pretty well healed and not in pain. He may be bored. I hope you have only been giving pain medications prescribed by the vet. If you have been giving him human pain medications, that may be the problem as many of those are toxic to dogs. If you have been giving him human pain medications, take him into a vet now.

Yes the medications (anesthetics and antibiotics if used) can cause digestive upsets fater surgery. Bland, small low fat meals fed little and often and a probioitc such as fortiflora can help. If he is weak and unwell you should have him checled by your vet to rule out a fever or infection of the wound

The anaesthetic can stay in the system up to 24 hours which could still be effecting him. Alternatively he could be uncomfortable down there following the procedure. I wouldn't worry about it as yet if he seems bright but I would certainly get it checked out if it continues for a few days. Let him out often to try and avoid accidents.

He could have some inflammation from the neuter or a brief lapse in house training from the stress of the surgery and anesthesia. He could also have a urinary tract infection. I recommend calling your Vet Monday and see if you can drop off a urine sample. They can test the urine for infection. If he has a urinary tract infection then they can prescribe antibiotics. If hes doesn't have an infection ask if they can prescribe and anti-inflammatory, if he isn't on one already from his neuter, in cause it's just some inflammation. In the mean time re-institute house training to get him back on track! I hope this helps and I wish Riley a speedy recovery!

I wouldn't expect this behavior as a side effect from surgery and would be more concerned about a UTI or other medical problem. Puppies certainly can get urinary tract infections although they are a bit more common in female dogs than males. I would recommend making an appointment with your veterinarian who would likely recommend checking a urine sample. If Finn does not have a medical issue you could discuss what could be causing inappropriate urination and how to get him back on track with potty training.
