Why is my 11-month-old dog peeing often and waking me at night?

Hi there! It sounds like little Woody needs to visit the vet. Frequent urination can indicate a urinary tract infection (UTI). When bacteria develop in the bladder, it inflames the urethra (the tube out which a male dog urinates), and causes a dog to feel like he has to pee all the time. I would be even more suspicious of this if he has little urine coming out when he's trying to urinate. A UTI is probably not an emergency at this point, but it is likely to be very uncomfortable if this is the case. While very unlikely at this age, it is possible for the urethra to swell so much that it blocks the passage of urine, which quickly becomes a life-threatening situation. I strongly suggest bringing Woody to the vet ASAP if the frequent urination continues. In the meantime, make sure he has access to plenty of water to keep the bladder and kidneys flushed out. There isn't much that you can do for him at home safely aside from this. Do be on the lookout for blood in the urine, as this is another indicator of a UTI. I'm sorry you're dealing with this frustrating issue. If needing an early morning bathroom break is a change, I'd recommend starting with a vet visit to make sure she doesn't have a UTI, bladder stone, skin infection, or even organ function problem etc. Those issues all can all increasing the amount of water she's drinking, making her need to go out in the middle of the night. If there is no medical issue, then it's a house training problem, which is difficult at her age. Usually using a crate to re-house train as if she were a puppy is the most effective course of treatment to deal with this.

Inappropriate urination can be due to many different factors including: - urinary tract infections - urinary bladder inflammation (cystitis) which can be due to stress - urinary stones - diabetes - cushing's disease - hypothyroidism - pyometra (not related to Pongo because this only occurs in females) - behavioural I recommend having Pongo seen by your vet, and they will likely check a urine sample to look for stones. Dalmations are very prone to a certain type of stone, so this is the most likely cause. Pongo might be at risk of a urethral blockage (can be fatal) if stones are present and get stuck in the urethra, so getting this diagnosed early is important. I recommend a visit to the vet when they are open for a urine check, and possible x-rays or ultrasound. Not all stones show up on x-rays. Best of luck with Pongo!

Hello. Jack Jack should definitely not be urinating every 30 minutes. This could be a physical problem, or he has some kind of psychological issue, especially if he is drinking more than a normal amount of water. I think it would be a good idea to see if his kidneys are OK & that he does not have any other issues with holding his urine. At the very least, he should be able to hold his urine a minimum of 4-6 hours at this age. Hopefully, he will be fine & he will outgrow this behavior, but I would recommend making sure there is not a medical reason for such frequent outings. Even though it’s only happening at night, Fiddle still might have a urinary tract infection or a problem causing increased thirst that leads to increased urination (infections, kidney disease and diabetes would be a few of these diseases). I would recommend seeing your vet - they would probably recommend checking a urine sample to start.

Hi, puppies can get urinary tract infections. I would watch her for urinating more frequently and in small amounts. At 7 months, she should be mostly house trained so this is not likely a behavior issue but it is still possible. I would take her to the vet for an exam if it happens a third time. They can put her on some antibiotics for this and she should be fine. Good luck!
