What's this wound on my dog's paw web? When should I see a vet?

It's hard to see with all the hair, I assume I'm looking at the top of her paw and it's between two toes. This may not be a traumatic injury, it could be a place that she has licked and scratched because she had a small wound or an insect bite or other irritation between the toes. I recommend keeping it clean with a warm damp washcloth and mild soap, make sure to rinse it completely and apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly to keep the skin moist and avoid cracking. I would get it seen by your vet as soon as you can but, as long as she seems otherwise fine, I don't feel this is an emergency.

Hello! That looks like some type of puncture wound on Lobo’s foot. Often this is due to stepping on/running into something sharp. Sometimes it can be related to a grass awning (called a foxtail) working its way into the skin. It can also represent a fungal infection or the emergence of a fly larvae. Lesions like this should generally be examined by the veterinarian since further treatment and antibiotics may be needed. I recommend to get Lobo into the veterinarian within the next few days. In the meantime, protect the area from licking bye have having him where an Elizabethan collar at all times. You can wash the area gently with soap and water and rental. This sounds like an infected interdigital cyst. These are common in dog’s paws. They usually need oral antibiotics to heal these infections, so I would take her in to your veterinarian for an exam and treatment. In the meantime you can soak the paw in an antibacterial solution, and use a cone to prevent her from licking the paw. I would have panda examined by a vet. A wound like this could be caused by skin infection, ringworm, mange mites, chronic licking from allergies or pain in the foot, etc. The vet will look closely at his skin and may take a small sample to examine under the microscope. Then they can prescribe an appropriate treatment once the cause is known.

This could be a small puncture wound or abrasion your dog got outside. If he is not licking it or limping on it, just keep it clean and dry and it should heal on its own within a few days. If however it seems to be bothering your dog or persists for more than about 3 days you should probably have it checked out. I hope this helps. If the wound is actively bleeding I recommend an urgent assessment as there are large blood vessels which can be damaged. Otherwise bathing the foot in cold water to keep clean and fresh will reduce the risk of infection. You should have the wound checked by your vet as soon as possible to see if surgical repair is necessary or if it can be allowed to heal naturally
