My dog's paw is swollen after lead cut circulation. What can I do?

The swelling will likely go down with some time. You can also massage it to get the blood moving better. I would put a cone collar on her to prevent her from licking if she is still messing with it. If the swelling isn't improving in a few hours, I would have your vet take a look at her to ensure there isn't an infection causing the swelling. I hope this helps!

Hello, until you can seek veterinary attention, you can soak Pablo's foot in warm water while gently massaging the foot. This will hopefully stimulate blood flow & prevent further tissue damage. But please consider having your veterinarian look at things soon. Take care.

The leash must be removed immediately to relieve the obstruction of the blood flow. If the leg is evidently distorted or broken or her foot is cold to touch she needs urgent vet care otherwise monitor for a reduction in swelling and discomfort over 12 hours or so

If it is cutting off circulation, I think it would be wise to take her in to a veterinarian to have it removed so that circulation can be restored. It should also be examined closely for injuries in the skin. Sometimes they will need oral antibiotics and pain medication. Please do not give any type of human pain medication such as aspirin, ibuprofen or Tylenol to her as these medications can cause serious side effects in animals.

This most commonly happens when a string or piece of towel or blanket gets wrapped anound the foot. Please check it carefully to make sure nothing is stuck on it stopping the circulation. Then you can soak the foot in warm water and massage it to increase the circulation which should reduce the swelling. Do this several times a day. Make sure he’s still eating and is kept warm. Please remove the rest of the bandage and you can do some gentle massage up and down the leg to improve the circulation. Holding the paw and rhythmically squeezing and releasing will help also. Please use a restraint collar so Kolsch doesn't chew her incision or make a sore on the swollen leg or paw. I encourage 2-5 minute slow controlled leash walks. If the swelling doesn't resolve by tomorrow I recommend a recheck with the veterinarian who performed the surgery. From the photo this doesn’t look too severe. You can wait until tomorrow If you can massage her leg for 15-20 minutes to get the circulation going. Having her walk around will also help decrease the pain and swelling. I would continue the massage and walks until the foot is back to normal. This looks like it will improve quickly but if it’s still swollen in the morning please take her in for an exam.
