Puppy paw pads bleeding and raw from walking on hard surfaces?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Multi-Colored Standard Poodle | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 24 days old | 23 lbs

Is it normal for a puppies pads to bleed a little and be a little raw? It's the side if pad. We've got slabs and stones for a garden rather than grass and wondered if the issue is her pads are still soft (she's 20 weeks old) or if it's something to worry about. She's not limping and doesn't seem bothered buy it.

No, it's not normal. I could be a wound or cut. I would wash it well with mild soap and watch Rosie to make sure she isn't licking it at all. It shouldn't continue to bleed, but it could take a few weeks to heal up completely.
