My dog's paw injury: Is it healing and what should I do next?

You can also try a warm compress for 5 minute intervals throughout the day to ease the swelling and pain. I believe you should continue to the antibiotic course your vet prescribed. I would advise a recheck with the vet however. I am not sure how his paw looked two weeks ago, but this doesn't look like it is healing well. The infection may need a different antibiotic, anti-inflammatory medication, and pain relief. there is also the chance that there is a forgein body stuck inside the paw such as a migrating grass seed. Irritation and infection from licking can very well cause swelling and irritation like this, and KetoHex alone probably won't be enough to get the swelling down if he's still able to lick it. Poor Kane! From looking at the picture, it looks like this may be a callus that had broken skin on it or even got infected. I would try to let it dry up and just continue to treat it with the elbow balm. I would try to make him lay on soft bedding. I would also make sure he isn't licking it. You can put a cone collar on him if needed to prevent this. If the wound doesn't heal, there is discharge, or anything worsens, I would strongly recommend to have your vet take a look.
