My dog has parvo. Can worms make them poop blood at the same time?

Yes, a dog can have parvo and worms at the same time. Parvo is life threatening and often deadly with no cure, so the treatment focus would be exclusively on symptomatic treatment for that instead of the worms. Deworming treatments can cause vomiting and diarrhea, and it would not be wise to give a dog who is already vomiting and experiencing diarrhea a drug that could potentially cause more of that. If the dog does recover from parvo virus, as it is frequently fatal, then he can be treated for worms.

Hello. Puppies usually are very nauseous & will have a bloody diarrhea with Parvo virus infections, but do not usually vomit up blood. Severe intestinal parasite infestations can mimic parvo, especially with whipworms & hookworms, & there other possible causes for the symptoms including a severe bacterial gastritis, other viruses, toxins & ingestion of foreign objects. Given that you have had an outbreak of parvo recently, if Kora is now having watery red poop, I would be be afraid she may have parvo as well if she isn't fully vaccinated. Parvo is highly contagious. Unfortunately you did not attach a picture of her poop, so I can't say if the red color of her poo is due to blood or not. I would take her into a vet immediately to have a parvo snap test done. This will diagnose if she does have parvo or not. If she does, she needs supportive treatment with the vet to have the best chance for her to survive. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

A small amount of blood can be expected not as a result of the deworming per se but more as an effect of the worms that are likely there. If if it just a small amount of possibly blood in the stools, I would continue to monitor him for now. If no improvement is noted within a few days, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Your veterinarian could check if this is truly blood and see if Willow needs any other supportive therapy such as a medications for possible colitis. Good luck and have a great day!

Blood in the poop can be caused by intestinal worms, a stomach illness, sudden change in diet, eating something rotten, a foreign body, or a severe illness like parvo. Because poop in the poop can have some very serious causes and it's been going on for a few days, it's time to see the vet. The vet can diagnose what is causing it and can treat her. The best treatment for worms are the ones on prescription. I would strongly recommend to have Polo checked by your veterinarian and have all your pets treated (some worms can be transmitted by fleas, so ideally flea treatment should be given as well).

Poor Luna! I can definitely understand being worried - it's always scary to see blood or other abnormalities in your dog's stool. The good news is, if she is eating and drinking normally, active, and not vomiting, it's extremely unlikely that she would have parvo or any other serious illness - puppies with parvo are usually very lethargic, not eating, and vomiting frequently. So it doesn't sound like this is likely to be an issue with Luna :) There are lots of things that could cause a milky substance like this with some traces of blood. Colitis, or irritation in the large intestine, can sometimes cause mucus with streaks or flecks of blood to be seen in the stool. This could also occur due to eating something she shouldn't have, or with a minor intestinal infection of some kind. She could also potentially have an infection in her anal glands, which are two scent glands located on either side of the rectum. If she is acting normal apart from this, it's not likely to be an emergency - but if the problem continues, it would be best to call your regular vet or take Luna in for a recheck exam to make sure that everything is okay.
