My dog was exposed to Parvo. Is he at risk if his vaccine expired?

If Rocky is vaccinated for parvo, he will be safe. If he's not vaccinated, the answer to your question depends on how long ago this dog had parvo. Dogs with parvo can shed the virus for at least two weeks after exposure.

In theory, she has not mount a response to her vaccines yet so she can still get infected with like parvovirus if those feces were infected with parvovirus. If your dog has been fully vaccinated against parvo (completed a full puppy series of vaccines) then infection is very unlikely. If it has been years since the kennel had a parvo infected dog inside, it is unlikely the virus is still alive. They should be fine. Since they have been vaccinated for parvovirus they are protected. Generally unvaccinated puppies are at high risk, adult dogs don't get it as often, especially those that are vaccinated. Hi there. Assuming Sophie has had her full vaccination schedule and appropriate boosters then the likelihood of her becoming ill with parvovirus is very rare. Of course, some animals don’t respond as well to vaccines as others, but that is a rare occurrence. If for some reason she does get sick and you have proof of vaccination given by a veterinarian then most vaccine companies will pay for treatment. Because Snickers has had his vaccines, as long as they are up to date, he should be protected from parvovirus. By up to date I mean having regular boosters of the vaccine every three years. If it's been longer than three years since he had his last parvo vaccine, then there is a chance he could be susceptible to it. It's fine to keep your shoes outside, it's always better to be safe than sorry in my opinion! I hope this helps!

Parvo is spread through contact with the feces of an infected dog - so if they played in the other puppy's yard or someplace where the pup has used the bathroom recently, then Odin may have been exposed. The good news is, the vaccine for parvo is very effective, so it's uncommon for puppies who are current on their vaccine series to get it. To be safe, I would definitely monitor him closely for the next couple of weeks for any signs of a problem. Symptoms of parvo include vomiting, not eating, acting lethargic, and often bloody diarrhea. If you see any of these symptoms, make sure you take Odin to the vet right away for testing and treatment.
