Is my 6-month-old chihuahua protected from parvo after spaced shots?

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | 5 months and 23 days old | 2 lbs

I have a chihuahua 6 months old. She had her first parvo shot at 6 weeks. She didn't have them in 3 week intervals. She had another parvo shot about 3 days ago. Would that be enough to protect her from parvo?

Because they were spaced so far apart, I would say no, these vaccines are not enough to protect her from parvo. You will have to start the vaccine schedule over again, and I would count this vaccine given three days ago as the initial vaccine. Because she is older, she will only need one more vaccine given four weeks after this first one to be protected from parvo. Make sure to get her rabies vaccines as well, it's required by law in most states by the time the dog is four months of age. Best of luck.

    She should be vaccinated for rabies, at minimum - so I would have this done as soon as possible if you haven't already. It also requires a series of at least two vaccines at this age to be fully protected against parvo, so I would make sure that she's had her full series.

    Other vaccines, such as kennel cough, Lyme disease, and leptospirosis, are based on whether she is at risk for these diseases with her current lifestyle. In general, if she spends most of her time indoors and does not go to the groomer's, a boarding kennel, or any kind of group class, these vaccines may not be needed. It's always recommended to discuss this with your vet to see if there are any other vaccines that may be necessary in your area.

Normally, we want to make sure that the booster vaccine is given within 4-6 weeks of the original vaccine. 3-4 weeks is best. So as long as you get Chica in to the vet sometime in the next few days, you should be fine. If you go much longer than that, your veterinarian may recommend doing another booster in 3-4 weeks to make sure that she develops an appropriate immune response.

Puppies aren't old enough to be vaccinated until they are at least 6 weeks of age, so if she has had two shots by nine weeks, either she was given one shot too early or the two were given too close together. Yes, Koa does need a booster shot, but these should be given four weeks apart to incur immunity. Because it's been two months since he last shot, he will need to start the series over again. You can bring him into a Vetco vaccine clinic to get it done.
