Why is my dog constantly panting and uncomfortable on UTI antibiotics?

It seems like something neurologic is going on with Luna based on the description of pacing and panting. I'm assuming this was the original problem with her when you took her to the other vets. It's encouraging that those tests were normal and helps to rule-out many life threatening problems, but it looks like more tests would need to be done to find the cause. I'm not sure what the stomach coating pills, antibiotics and pain are all attempting to correct, but I would need to know all of her previous information in order to comment on that. You may consider requesting a consult with one of our experts, so that you can send all the information, pictures and have the ability to chat back and forth for as long as necessary. It appears that an accurate diagnosis is lacking with Luna. I recommend scheduling a recheck appointment with one of the vets that has seen Luna and ask them what it will take to get a definitive diagnosis. Sometimes we attempt to treat for the common causes of a problem prior to suggesting costly diagnostics. If the treatment doesn't appear effective, then a new strategy is in order. Hello. This sounds very concerning for Princess. You really need to consider having her evaluated by a veterinarian because we are totally unable to diagnose her infection nor prescribe any antibiotics or medications that she might need. Hello, and I'm sorry to hear that Layla has been unwell. Her dose of antibiotic does not seem inappropriate. It is possible that the antibiotic choice is incorrect. Since she is not improving, your vet may recommend a change of medication, or consider blood work and chest x-rays to rule out pneumonia, which may require other treatments such as IV fluid therapy and IV antibiotics. In the meantime, you can try a humidifier, or saline nasal sprays to help loosen secretions in her nasal cavity. Your vet may also suggest a cough suppressant to help improve her comfort. Frequent licking and blood in the urine are signs of an infection. However if it flared after the start of the antibiotics then I would pursue further testing. Did they do anytime sample tonxhexk for cells and crystals and see what bacteria what present? From there you need an X-ray or an ultrasound to make sure there are no bladder stones as this can require surgery or the problem will keep occurring without.

There are many possibilities for the symptoms you are describing: Not eating, panting, lethargic, restless. Some things that could be wrong: she could have a fever, she could be in pain (in her belly), she could be in heart failure, have pneumonia or other lung or heart issue, she could have eaten something that is now stuck in her intestines or stomach, lyme disease, she could be bleeding some where or she could have a metabolic problem like kidney failure, liver disease, etc. The possibilities are long and some are serious. The most serious symptom you are reporting is the trouble breathing, that alone is a reason to take her to your Vet today. I wish you the best of luck!

Is she trying to urinate but can’t? If so this could be an emergency and she should be seen immediately. It is also possible that she is dehydrated and doesn’t have much urine to produce.
