My dog has pancreatitis. How long until recovery and normal eating?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 11 years and 11 months old | 17 lbs

My dog was diagnosed with pancreatitis on Friday. They have her fluids under her skin that would absorb as needed and they provided me with antibiotics and gastrointestinal dog food. She doesn't want to eat or drink very much at all in her own so once she refuses I administer water sometimes diluted with pedialyte and her dog food too. How long does it take for her to recover? She's still wobbly in her feet and slow with. I wagging tail. I just thought she'd be better by now.

Pancreatitis is a serious disease and a dog can die from it. So you need to give her time to recuperate. It will take more than two days for her to become healthy. Make sure she is hydrated and feed her only small amounts of the gastrointestinal food, but offer it often. Eventually she will start eating better. If she still is wobbly and not improved by Monday you should take her back to the vet for a recheck.
