Is a painless black spot on my dog's paw normal or concerning?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

A small black dot has appeared on Milli’s paw about one month ago. (small black dot left of paw in photo) She doesn’t have any reaction or seem to have any pain when I touch it or inspect her paw. Is there reason for concern or is it just some sort or pigmentation?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! From the pictures Mills’s paw looks normal and the black area looks like pigment changes which is not abnormal. If you are concerned, a vet can biopsy the area to confirm but you can just continue to monitor at this time. Good luck and kisses to Milli!
