My dog has painful, swollen, infected paw holes. What can I do?

This sounds like an infected interdigital cyst. These are common in dog’s paws. They usually need oral antibiotics to heal these infections, so I would take her in to your veterinarian for an exam and treatment. In the meantime you can soak the paw in an antibacterial solution, and use a cone to prevent her from licking the paw. If there is green pus coming from the paw this is an indication of infection that requires antibiotic therapy. I would stop using hydrogen peroxide as it isn't recommended for regular wound cleaning (can actually delay healing if used repeatedly). Clean the area with mild soap and dry well to avoid moisture, apply a topical antibiotic ointment, place an e-collar on your dog to prevent him licking the foot and make an appointment for your dog to see the vet. He likely will need oral antibiotic treatment and the vet will want to check his paw to be sure there isn't a foreign body like a splinter stuck there.

I'm sorry this happened but you must understand this is a very serious wound and should be treated by your local veterinarian. She should be on oral antibiotics. No matter is what is applied to this topically, it will not heal if she continues to chew at it. You will need to either keep it bandaged (provided she does not chew the bandage off) or get her a cone collar like this one until it is healed. Be sure to get the appropriate size. It is possible the ingrown hairs caused a cyst or abscess to form which then drained/ruptured leaving a hole. If she is licking the paw, place an e-collar (cone) on her. Keep the paw as clean and dry as you can. Foot soaks in Epsom salt or diluted chlorhexidine may help with inflammation or infection. Monitor for redness, discharge, lameness or lethargy. If it does begin to improve in a day or so, have her examined by your veterinarian.

However, just like you pointed out, there may be a foreign body stuck in there or something else causing an infection. I recommend that you have Tank evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and treat accordingly. Antibiotics can be started and they can also check to see if there is something stuck there that they can remove to provide comfort and also prevent the infection from reoccurring.
