My dog has painful, pus-filled sores on his paws. What to do?

I would suspect that this could be from another cat, some other animal or a puncture wound from a sharp object. It sounds as though the lesion is infected with your description. I would recommend soaking the foot in a mixture of betadine and water until you have a light brown solution. Soak the foot with this solution twice daily for 10 minutes at a time. If the foot does not improve, I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at this so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps! It is difficult to make out exactly what this is based on the pictures, but it appears to be an ulcerated sore that has opened up on the paw pad. The spot at the top of the picture appears to be a cut or abrasion. The protruding pieces are likely pieces of pad that have not fallen off on their own. I would recommend soaking this in a betadine / saline mixture (mixed to give a light brown solution). I would soak this for 5-10 minutes twice daily until healed. I would also apply Sentry Wound ointment, which you can find at PetCo and apply twice daily. If this does not improve or it worsens, please have Bane examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. This looks like a painful, infected sore! I would not recommend using anything topical on this area - I think Brutus needs to see a veterinarian and may need oral antibiotics. Until you are able to see a veterinarian you could keep the area covered with a dog bootie and/or use an e-collar to prevent him from licking the area.

Hi there and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am sorry to hear Miko has been experiencing some paw trouble. From your description, it sounds like the paw pads may be infected. I would advise on having Miko seen by his veterinary very soon for this. He may be to be placed on antibiotics. I would continue with the salt water paw baths until you can see a veterinarian, but I would advise on taking him in soon to have this evaluated by his vet. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is difficult to know without being able to examine her. This could be a benign or malignant growth. There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign.
