My Labrador has a painful hole on his back. Is it a warble?

It could be she has the famed cuterebra, also known as a warble. A lot of vets get excited about this because it's really cool to treat, but it's not so cool for the poor dog! They are painful, and it's certainly possibly that your dog has one. The best thing to do is take her into a vet first thing in the morning. This is something that needs to be treated at the clinic, and if she does have a cuterebra, the vet can removed it. I hope this helps!

It would help if you could upload a photo of the hole. Now, that you have removed the foreign body (egg) from your dog, the wound should heal. As long as there is no infection, purulent discharge or pain, you can just wait until it heals. If the hole does not heal within a few days, you may want to have the vet examine it. This may have been a pupa of a warble-type fly , although I do not know of any warble flies in the UK attacking dogs.

Unless she is painful or lethargic, it can likely wait until the morning. Place an e-collar (cone) or a small t-shirt on her to prevent scratching, rubbing or licking. Do not squeeze or press the area. If you don't think she can wait, then by all meas have her seen at the nearest veterinary ER. If it is a cuterebra, it will need to be removed. If not, the wound will be cleaned and she will likely go home with antibiotics and pain medication (if indicated).

This is suspicious of a bot infestation. This is a type of fly larva that lives under the skin and is very difficult to remove. You will need a veterinarian to surgically remove it and clean the wound, so I recommend scheduling a vet visit and let them know that you are suspicious of Cuterebra. I am very sorry to hear about your labrador. It sounds like he needs to have diagnostic imaging (x-rays or preferably ultrasound) performed to examine the abdominal cavity, or if that is not an option, an exploratory surgery may be needed. I would be concerned about a large abscess or a tumor that had a cystic or abscessed area, but truly to determine the cause and whether or not treatment will be helpful further investigation is needed.

Poor Kylo! This could be a bad local infection, ringworm, or even mange. Since it is so large and painful when you touch it, I would definitely have a vet look at it. Your vet will be able to determine the cause and get him started on the proper meds to help it heal. Also, you can put a cone collar on him if he is pawing at it or trying to rub it on the ground. You can also give him Benadryl twice a day if it seems itchy. This won’t heal it but it may make him more comfortable. See link below. Hello! That looks like some type of puncture wound on Lobo’s foot. Often this is due to stepping on/running into something sharp. Sometimes it can be related to a grass awning (called a foxtail) working its way into the skin. It can also represent a fungal infection or the emergence of a fly larvae. Lesions like this should generally be examined by the veterinarian since further treatment and antibiotics may be needed. I recommend to get Lobo into the veterinarian within the next few days. In the meantime, protect the area from licking bye have having him where an Elizabethan collar at all times. You can wash the area gently with soap and water and rental.
