My dog is crying in pain, panting, not eating, and constipated. What's wrong?

Oh no. Poor guy. Loss of appetite and decreased mobility can indicate that he is painful or has an infection of some sort. I would highly recommend taking Bentley in to your local vet for some bloodwork analysis to check his organ function as well as a thorough exam to try and pinpoint what the underlying problem is exactly so that we best know how to treat him. Poor Bentley! It sounds like he is very uncomfortable and needs to be seen by a vet for treatment. At this point, I don't think treating him at home will be successful because it sounds like he might need an enema. Please call your vet an have him seen as soon as possible so he can get some relief. The foul odor could also be caused by a problem with his anal gland and your vet can do an examination to diagnose. Hope he feels better soon!

Hello, sorry to hear about Shep. The panting may be associated to discomfort from his GI tract or other abdominal organs such as his pancreas. Additionally, given his breed, Shep may also be having back pain and he is unwilling to eat because of pain. If this is associated with his GI tract, he would also potentially be having soft stools, vomiting or regurgitation, lethargy, and anorexia. If this is associated with his back, then he would most likely be reluctant to move, avoid stairs or going up/down from the bed, may be hear yelping/whining/crying when moving, or being carried, or may even be unwilling to turn his neck. However, certain signs with this may overlap occasionally as each dog may experience pain/discomfort differently. For this reason, it would be best o have Shep evaluated by his veterinarian today. He may need additional diagnostics such as bloodwork and x-rays to begin. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Poor Bentley! Given his age, I would be concerned there could be something seriously wrong causing the symptoms such as heart disease. Heart disease can be common in senior dogs. I would take him into a vet today for a health check. If he does have heart disease, it cannot be cured but the symptoms can be medically managed. Best of luck.

Poor Archie. I am sorry that he seems to be in pain. Pets don't typically get constipated and if he were he would be seen straining to poop and crying out during that time. Constipation is treated by increasing your pets water intake (subcutaneous fluids if it's severe) and getting an enema placed in the rectum. To check his temperature you have to place a thermometer in his rectum (part way) as this is he most accurate reading. Normal temperature in a dog is 100-102.5 degrees F. Pets that have a fever rarely scream out in pain. It sounds like Archie has another source of his pain that may only be found by having him examined by a vet in person. We want to get to the bottom of this quickly, because it sounds like it is urgent that he get help with this. I would also discourage you from giving him any over the counter people pain medication as well l, because these are quite toxic to pets and can cause liver and/or kidney failure after just one dose. I would recommend feeling Archie all over to see if you can determine where his pain is coming from. Then getting him seen by your vet to get him treated based on the source of the pain and the underlying cause. I hope your fur baby gets better soon. Best of luck.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Gage! I would worry that Gage has hurt his back or neck. This is how they tend to act. They also don’t jump up in furniture like normal and avoid the stairs. They cry when touched, picked up or move. I would take him in to your vet today before the holiday for an exam. I treat neck and back pain with anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxants and pain medications. I wish Gage a speedy recovery!

Not eating or drinking can be signs of a systemic illness that is causing him to feel ill. Examples are liver disease, kidney disease, hormonal imbalances, and even cancer. Walking hunched is an indication of back pain and/or abdominal pain. He may be panting despite the normal room temperature because of this pain or discomfort. For all of these reasons, I would recommend having Marley evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. They will likely recommend blood work, a urinalysis and abdominal x-rays to look for evidence of underlying disease that could make him unwilling to eat or drink. These tests may also give some insight into why he is walking hunched over and sensitive to you touching him. They will also allow your veterinarian to develop the most appropriate treatment plan to get him feeling better as quickly as possible. I hope this is helpful, and best of luck to you and Marley.
