My dog is constipated, won't eat, and has a foul odor from his rear.

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Male | neutered | 1 year and 8 months old | 15 lbs

My dog (pomchi) appears constipated. Won't eat. Shaking, and his rectum is leaking a foul odor.

Poor Bentley! It sounds like he is very uncomfortable and needs to be seen by a vet for treatment. At this point, I don't think treating him at home will be successful because it sounds like he might need an enema. Please call your vet an have him seen as soon as possible so he can get some relief. The foul odor could also be caused by a problem with his anal gland and your vet can do an examination to diagnose. Hope he feels better soon!

Poor Bentley! If he has a stinky odor coming from his rear end and is also having trouble pooping, it sounds like he may have a problem with his anal glands. These are scent glands located on either side of the rectum, and they can sometimes become overly full or infected - when this happens, it causes pain and discomfort for the dog, and often makes it difficult for them to poop. In addition, there is often a very strong odor from the area. Some pets also bite at their rear end or scoot along the floor when they have this problem. I would recommend taking Bentley to the vet today if possible - he/she can check his anal glands and express them if necessary, and can also prescribe antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medications if there is an infection present.

Oh no. Poor guy. Loss of appetite and decreased mobility can indicate that he is painful or has an infection of some sort. I would highly recommend taking Bentley in to your local vet for some bloodwork analysis to check his organ function as well as a thorough exam to try and pinpoint what the underlying problem is exactly so that we best know how to treat him. I am sorry your furry friend is so ill and hope that he is able to make a full and speedy recovery soon! Best wishes and take care.

Why is my constipated dog not eating? What can I do to help my dog?

I'm sorry to hear that Buddy is not feeling well. If a dog is very constipated oftentimes they will stop eating because they have an overall feeling of fullness. Since I don't know what other medications Buddy is on it is hard to know what to recommend in this instance. Of course calling or taking him to see your vet that prescribed the medication would be a good starting point. If you are unable to do that at this time some things you can do at home are making sure he's drinking plenty of water (because sometime dehydration can lead to constipation) and trying to get him to eat something with a lot of fiber such as canned pumpkin. If these suggestions aren't working I would take Buddy in to see your vet. Sometimes there is a serious underlying problem to constipstion and you dog may need fluid therapy, an enema and/or a diet change.

My dog won't eat, has bad breath, and can't poop. What's wrong?

I am sorry to hear about Chico's current condition. Based on the clinical signs you have described, two top differentials come to mind. The first one is dental disease. This causes a wretched odor to emanate from the mouth and when bad enough, will make a dog not want to eat anything at all. The pain can be quite severe in some cases. The inability to defecate may actually be a indication that Chico hasn't been eating and doesn't have to go. The other differential that comes to mind is kidney disease. When kidney disease becomes severe, dogs can develop something known as a uremic scent from their mouth. It also causes anorexia, and subsequently, lack of defecation. I would definitely have Chico taken to the vet sometime soon for both an oral exam and some blood work. Best of luck with him!

Poor guy. He may be a bit constipated. If he is squatting but no feces are coming out, then its best to take him to your vet to have him checked. He may need an enema to remove dried stuck feces in his colon so that he can freely go. You can also give an over the counter enema (from your local pharmacy) if you are up for it. Make sure he has free access to water and give him some canned food as well to increase his water intake. Constipation in young dogs is also often caused by intestinal parasites, so its good to have his stool checked by the vet as well. I hope that your fur baby feels better and is able to go potty soon! Hello, sorry to hear about Tinkerbell. She may actually have impacted anal glands. These are glands around her anus that produce a foul smell and some dogs, particularly small breed dogs, may be unable to express thes glands on their own. Often, they require digital expression of these glands. If they become too full, they may bother your pet or even become infected. I would recommend having Tinkerbell evaluated by her veterinarian soon or even your local groomer to have her anal glands expressed. If you look under her tail around her anus an notice any evidence of bleeding or pus like discahrge, then have her seen by a veterinarian sooner as she may have had developed an infection. My dog had diarrhea, now constipated and crying. What's wrong?

Hi ! When he goes outside does he pass anything at all ? If he doesn’t I would recommend to have Oaty checked over. He is a young dog, he might have eaten something that caused an obstruction or partial obstruction in his tummy, or get hold of a bone that now is causing him pain when he tries to go to the toilet. I think a full clinical examination is needed together with a complete clinical history. We can then have a shorter list of differential diagnosis and the vet will be able to prescribe an adequate treatment. Hope this helps !
