My dog's overdue for rabies. Is his bodily fluid on my cut a risk?

Unless you bit him and have rabies, he can’t get it from biting you. Keep up on his vaccinations and he should be good. Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It sounds like the bite wound has become infected. Bite wounds typically require the attention of a veterinarian. If the wound is deep enough, it may require stitches and prescription antibiotics if it is infected. Depending on your local animal control and rabies laws, your puppy may need a rabies vaccine now and then a booster in 6 months. I would be sure to have Puppy seen by a veterinarian right away so he can have this wound evaluated.

Rabies is very common in the united states. Any patient that has Rabies will pass away with in 10 days. The likeliness that a dog in the vet clinic had Rabies is very very rare. However you son will not get Rabies or should be concerned about getting Rabies with this type of exposure. Hope that helps- thanks for using pet coach

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If the dog is up to date on its rabies vaccinations, the chance of you contracting rabies is incredibly low. What we recommend is to quarantine the dog who bit you (or have the owner of the dog quarantine it) for 10 days and monitor the dog for the development of any abnormal neurologic signs. If the dog is completely normal after 10 days from the time you were bit, you are in the clear. If the dog becomes sick at all in that time frame, or if you become sick at all, I recommend contacting your doctor. I hope this is helpful - best of luck!

It is very important that you take Rubal in to your vet for appropriate treatment, and have your son seen by a doctor right away. The doctor will be able to treat your son based on the rabies law and treatment protocol in your area, and your vet will be able to advise you on proper treatment protocol for Rubal. Please also make sure that you always keep your pets up to date on their rabies vaccinations, since rabies is relatively common in India and is deadly to humans and other mammals.

Hello. No, you do not need to worry about rabies, but you may need to see your own physician about your scratch if it remains swollen. Max is definitely old enough to receive his rabies shot.
