My dog has oozing sores. Can I bathe him before his vet appointment?

If the legs are sore, you can place a towel or rubber mat down on the shower floor so that he does not slip. I hope this helps! I'm sorry to hear that Dexter may have ringworm! You are doing exactly the right thing by separating him away from your other pets, and cleaning anything that he has come into contact with. I wouldn't recommend bathing him tonight, as regular dog shampoo won't do anything to help and it may make the problem more difficult to diagnose when he sees the vet tomorrow. I would just keep him quarantined in a separate room until his appointment, and wash your hands thoroughly after petting or handling him.

This sounds like a skin infection and may be secondary to allergies. I would try some beandryl twice a day and a medicated shampoo like miconahex-triz. Since some of them are bleeding, I would strongly recommend to have your vet look at them as well as he likely needs oral antibiotics to help him heal. See link below for benadryl dosing. This looks very nasty. This likely is a bacterial dermatitis which needs to be seen urgently by a veterinarian. Unfortunately these tend to spread like wildfire, Maybe you could ask your vet to see you inbetween clients. If that is not possible, I suggest clipping as much hair off the wound and around it until you see healthy skin, You will be surprised that the sore is much bigger than it appears, Once you have done that, wash it with some chlorhexidine or wound wash available in your pharmacy or drugstore, Pat dry, and put some Neosporine ointment on the area, Unfortunately there are no OTC pain killers available for this kind of wound. Your dog will need to have another wound treatment at your vet and will need oral prescription antibiotics and possibly will be given an ointment. Do not put any ointment on the lesion tomorrow before you go to the vet so he can examine the skin properly. Do not let your puppy lick this wound. Poor guy. I would recommend keeping these areas clean with a Betadine rinse diluted 50:50 with warm water for the first day or two, then doing copious sterile saline (from local pharmacy) flushes. You may also want to place an e-collar (cone) on Wein so that he can't get to the area and lick it, which will only cause further irritation and infection. This will help keep infection at bay until he can be seen by your vet. I hope Wein's skin problems resolve soon!

This is very concerning and appears to be a moist dermatitis, likely caused by a bacterial infection. Your dog needs to be seen by a veterinarian asap for an exam, clean up of the lesion which includes shaving the hair off all the way into healthy areas of the skin to see the extent, a possible skin swab and, depending on the diagnosis, prescription antibiotics in tablet or ointment form.

His chest seems worse than his feet in those photos! an allergy is vet likely but for joe t seems it may be infected also. If you can't get in before next week you can try a medicated shampoo twice a week to help clean and rinse the skin and wipe the feet down after coming in from outside. You can apply a medicated powder between the Toes to help and give an antihistamine such as Benadryl.
