How to know if omeprazole is helping my dog's vomiting and reflux?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 1 year old | 55 lbs

My vet prescribed omeprazole 20mg twice daily for 14 days because she believes the bile reflux made an ulcer which caused him to vomit blood. How will I know if it works? Would he eat less grass and burp less?

YEs, fewer signs fo nausea/discomfort and less burping wpuld be an indication that the treatment is working. Ensuring he eats slowly by using a slow feeder or scattering his food over a wide tray or plate so he has to work harder for it can also be helpful in improving overall digestion.
