My dog didn't eat while I was away and seems skinny. Is this normal?

He's such a handsome fella. I can understand your concern when it seems something is awry with your pet. Based on the photo's he seems to be an appropriate body condition score. However, you can get him on a scale and quantify his weight right now compared to what it used to be. If he did go off his food while you were gone it was likely due to missing you being there. He should go back to his normal feeding schedule now that you are back. Just continue to monitor his stools, making sure they are solid and also monitor him for any vomiting. If you do see these symptoms, then its best to have your vet do a thorough exam and check for intestinal parasites, as this is a common cause for loose stool in pets. However, this should subside and should not last very long. I would entice her appetite by adding things like boiled chicken, dog grade gravy, lean meats, among others. If he's never been away from you, it may be that he is having some anxiety with you being gone that may be contributing. However, it could be something more serious. Since he's acting lethargic and is not eating, talk to your mum ( I assume this is who is caring for him currently?) and see if she can get him in to see a vet in the next few days. Hello. This could be just a normal schedule for Benny. No dog has to eat twice a day, that is something we have imposed on them. As long as he is healthy & happy, does not seem to be losing any weight, then skipping a day or day and a half is of no concern. If there is any weight loss, vomiting or change in stool quality or quantity, that would be the time to become concerned. But he looks very happy with his friends. Take care.

However, it is very likely that she will normalize soon perhaps in a few days. One thing you can do is entice her appetite by adding things like pieces of chicken or beef to her food for a few days just to encourage her to eat. If there is no improvement in the next few days then have her examined by your veterinarian to ensure there is not a medical reason to explain this. Good luck!
