Why is my dog not eating, lethargic, and his anus moving strangely?

Loss of appetite and lethargy can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Sonu evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. It sounds like Moose may have some gastro-intestinal upset. You didn't mention vomiting-- If there's been no vomiting then that is good. However, decreased appetite and the loose stools are concerning. When the colon (large intestine) is inflamed, sometimes they feel like they need to poop even though there isn't anything more coming out. As for what may be causing the GI upset, it could be gastroenteritis which is inflammation of the stomach and or intestines-- this could be from eating something out of the ordinary such as getting into the garbage or eating mulch, etc, or it may be secondary to anything from kidney disease to cancer. I don't see Moose's age listed; if he is older, the concern that there is a more serious underlying problem is higher. If he is a younger dog, gastroenteritis is more likely. Since he seems lethargic, I strongly recommend that you take him in to the vet at your first convenience. If the lethargy is getting worse, or if he starts vomiting or having blood in the stool or vomit, seek emergency care. If you are unable to take him to the vet, you can offer a bland diet (boiled chicken and white rice) for a couple of days and see if that helps. If it is not improving, please get him in for an exam. Oso apparently is not feeling well. Lethargy, not eating and not drinking is serious and if he has not had his full course of vaccinations I would strongly suspect a viral infection such as parvo, since he is a young dog. I suggest you take him to a PetER today, as the symptoms are very general but severe enough to warrant an exam and treatment today. The vet will want to do some blood work to rule out parvo, and organ disease. Please take Oso to a vet today.

Lethargy can be a sign of illness, but it doesn't point to any one particular issue, and is rather a symptom than a cause. Unfortunately, without a vet exam, it would be hard to determine more than that. I would keep an eye on Oso for any other signs of illness that may indicate he needs to go to the vet. The description that you gave of Jex sounds very concerning. I would get him into a veterinarian for a thorough exam. He most likely will need some diagnostics to find out what is going on. There is a chance that he has eaten something foreign that has caused a partial obstruction, he could have pneumonia, and there are lots of other possibilities by the description that you have given. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I'm sorry to hear that Brak n Jan is not doing well at home. Any signs of lethargy, decreased appetite, and acting abnormal, especially in a younger dog, warrant a visit to the veterinarian. A 2 year old Lab should have lots of energy and a good appetite if they are healthy. It is possible that he is systemically sick, either with gastrointestinal disease, liver or kidney disease, or other metabolic issue causing him to feel unwell. He may also be painful somewhere, causing him to not want to eat and walk slowly. I recommend contacting your veterinarian to have him seen at the next available appointment. Your vet will likely recommend bloodwork to look for any evidence of infection or organ abnormalities that can be treated. Do NOT give any pain medications that are intended for humans to Brak n Jan, as these can be fatally toxic to dogs. I hope this is helpful!

These are signs that he is either in a great deal of pain, or is very sick. There could be many possible causes of this, so it's difficult to say what exactly this means, or how easily this can be treated, but it's worth a visit to the vet. The vet will be able to help narrow-down the cause and at-least give treatment to make him feel better. Given his current condition, I reccomend he go to the vet within the next 24 hours.
