My dog is still not eating and now coughing. When to see vet?

Iggy is two years old, it would be very surprising that at his age he would be in heart failure. It does sound like he is sick, and there could be a couple of things going on with him. He could have a respiratory infection causing his coughing, gagging, and tiredness. A GI illness could cause the diarrhea and vomiting, as well as the tiredness. I think he needs to see a vet asap for a health check, so I would take him into his vet in the morning. I hope this helps!

Loss of appetite can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Hooch evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics to be performed include thoracic radiographs, abdominal ultrasound and bloodwork. Treatment would be dependent on findings. Good luck and have a good day!

Hi. Is your pet on medications for heart failure? If so, and still coughing, your veterinarian may need to reassess xrays and possibly increase doses of medication. Prognosis for heart failure is guarded to poor. I'm sorry she isn't feeling well

It sounds as though Vito has been through quite a bit over the past week! It is concerning that he is now lethargic, not eating, and coughing, after being normal for a week after his procedures. My main concern is that he may have developed kennel cough or canine influenza after being in a shelter situation. To answer your question, yes, I do think you should take him to the vet for evaluation. In addition to a physical exam, Vito may need to have chest x-rays taken or blood testing performed. Dogs don't tend to get common colds with the same frequency we do. If she is coughing and gagging after exercise I would plan to get Cherry examined by her vet fairly soon. Coughing and gagging may be from GI issues, or enlarged heart or heartworm disease among other things. Her GI signs also point to something going on that needs to be addressed. Your vet can do a physical exam combined with history and discuss appropriate diagnostics to find out what is going on with Cherry.

Since this has been going on since yesterday I suggest getting her in to see your vet or at the very least giving them a call and describing the situation. One of those pieces of grass could be lodged at the back of her throat, making her gag. Constant nausea and coughing is tiring and could explain her lack of energy, but it is concerning that she hasn't stopped trying to cough something up.
