My dog's nose has a pink scrape and dried gunk. Is it serious?

This is very angry looking and inflamed. I would clean it with a warm cloth. Don't put anything on it as Koko will probably just lick it off. As this is getting bigger quickly a veterinary exam tomorrow is indicated. This may be a reaction to a spider or insect bite, a mass, or a fungal infection. They will do an exam and look at a slide of the cells under the microscope if needed to determine the cause. Once they have a diagnosis then they can give Koko the proper treatment. I would have that checked out by a vet. This lesion is concerning for certain fungal and parasitic lesions that can get much worse if left too long. I also worry about skin cancer in white-faced dogs, so it will be good to have this ruled-out as a potential cause. No need to panic, just get it checked out in a day or two. For now, you can keep the wound clean by blotting it with a cloth soaked in warm water. Do this twice a day and avoid scrubbing.

That are certainly weird looking! Depending on when those lesions started and if they seem to be itchy, my presumptive diagnosis might differ considerably. It is possible that Cami might have been sticking in muzzle in an area that she shouldn't have been, resulting in some sort of irritation, and the lesions you currently see. They do definitely appear to be red, inflamed, and possibly infected based on the picture. Another possibility is that there is an immune-mediated condition that could be the cause of this. There is a disease known as Pemphigus that is known to cause skin lesions near the nose. I would definitely take Cami into the vet to have these areas assessed, and have some preliminary diagnostics run on the affected portions of the skin. Hope this helps!

This does not appear to be a bite of any form. Could be scratches. I don't see anything here that I would be overly concerned with and I don't think your vet would do anything at this stage either. If you want to try something I would recommend you use this wound spray on the nose. It won't hurt her if he licks it off but I suggest you try to minimize that because if he licks it off, it can't work. So, I suggest soaking a cotton ball with the spray and then wiping it on the nose. Dogs don't typically like being sprayed in the face; you don't want to scare him. Put it on and then distract him for a few minutes with a Kong filled with treats or something similar to get his mind off of it. It should dry rather quickly and you don't need to use a lot - just a very thin layer twice a day. I would definitely recommend having it sampled in the vet office. It's possible that it's just a wound, or it could be an infection, cancer, or even something like an immune mediated disease. You don't need to take him to an emergency clinic, but I'd recommend having him see early next week to try to get a better idea of what's going on. Good luck, I hope it's nothing.

The most common reason that we will see a small raw area on the inside of the nostril is due to irritation of some type. That can be something as simple as a scratch from a stick or toy that will take some time to heal. I typically do not recommend applying anything to the area because it can make dogs try to lick or rub the area more which can make it take longer to heal. If your vet has examined it and is not concerned, then I would just recommend monitoring it. I would expect that it will slowly resolve as long as Otis is not continuing to irritate it. Sorry to hear Biscuit is in some discomfort. The second picture to me looks like whatever might have happened initially is definitely already on the road to recovery. There is some evidence of swelling and bruising, but it doesn't appear to be badly infected. That being said, if she is uncomfortable enough to be pawing at the area and bothering at it, it still might be painful. She could probably benefit from an anti-inflammatory prescribed by a vet. I would also encourage you to get her an e-collar to prevent her from causing any self-inflicted trauma, thus re-aggravating the lesion. These can be acquired at pet stores, on line, or through a veterinary office. There are also videos online on how to make homemade ones, though many times these are not as effective or will not hold up for very long in young, rambunctious dogs. If you are worried about possible infection, check the area for heat and take your dog''s temperature (anything above about 103 would be concerning for a dog sitting comfortably at home). You can also use something topically on the area, such as a neosporin ointment as well as something with a steroid to help with itchiness / inflammation to address. Hope this helps.
