My Collie has nose bumps, could it be lupus? When should I recheck?

It could be an infection, cyst, allergic reaction, benign or cancerous lump. The best thing would be to have your vet examine her to perform a needle aspirate to help diagnose. Your vet can then determine the best way to treat. She may need an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, or it may need to be removed.

A couple of things come to mind as possibilities. This could be an acute hypersensitivity reaction to something - bug bite/sting, perhaps - or possibility a severe bacterial infection called furunculosis. There are also some immune-mediated/auto-immune diseases that attack the top of the nose. See your vet about this. An appropriate treatment plan might be to start antibiotics and if no improvement after 2 weeks consider a biopsy to obtain a definitive diagnosis.

I think these two problems are not related. The nose is inflamed indeed. It could be from an allergy, so it is good that he is having treatment for that. The lump on the nose looks like a hair follicle infection or a small growth. If it is local infection, it should disappear in the next 5-7 days without treatment. If not, you should take Tyson back to your vet so they can check him over.

A lesion like that could be several things including an ingrown hair, allergies, skin mites, bacterial infection or a skin tumor/mass. There are a couple things you can do at home and they can help but they may not address the underlying cause. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing her diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. You can wash the lesion once a day (not her whole body, just the lesion). Also protect the area from trauma by having your pup wear an elizabethan collar at all times. Yes this could be zinc deficiency or it could be discoid lupus. I would bring him in for an exam. For a difinitive diagnosis you will need to have a biopsy done. I have a malamute with discoid lupus and am able to manage it without medication although initially I treated her for it and then weaned her onto supplements. I would be happy to help with holistic supplements when you have a diagnosis.

Scabs like that can be a few things. Sometimes it’s a one time infection. Sometimes it’s related to allergies and sometimes it can be related to hypothyroidism. Your fastest option is to have her examined by the veterinarian. Lesions on the nose may not heal very well with topical medication because pets lick it off. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Neo! I am concerned about the swelling on her nose. Since she isn't responding to antibiotics I would worry that she has a tooth root abscess, a nasal tumor or a fungal infection in her nasal cavity. I would do full blood work and then sedated her to take skull X-rays and X-ray the teeth on that side of her face. I hope this helps and I wish Neo the very best!
