Why is my dog's nose bleeding and forming small craters?

I am so sorry to hear about Drako! It is definitely quite possible given the appearance and his breed that he could be suffering from an autoimmune disease such as lupus. Other possibilities would include bacterial and fungal infections, solar dermatosis (sensitivity to sun) and zinc responsive dermatosis, and less commonly cancer. It looks like if your dog didn't respond to the antibiotics and steroids then some additional testing needs to be done. A biopsy is the fastest way to determine what the problem here could be. I would recommend discussing this with your vet and if they don't feel comfortable asking for a referral to a specialist.

I am sorry to hear about your dog. If he is a dog who tries to escape his crate and these could be wounds from excessive rubbing of his face on the bars, you can try a topical antibiotic ointment. We do, however, worry when we have lesions on the nose or where the skin of the nose meets the fur about immune disorders like lupus which require veterinary care. I would recommend bringing him to the vet for an exam if he is not an excessive rubber on the cage bars.

Some causes of this are bacterial and fungal infections, autoimmune disease, severe allergies, mites and even cancer. Please take Grizzlu to see a veterinarian as soon as you can. Whatever caused this it looks like it is now infected and she likely need antibiotics, topical treatment and possible other oral medications like corticosteroids.

This is where the dog's body attacks its own skin cells resulting in an ulcerated and cracked nose. A common type of this disease is known as discoid lupus. There are other types as well though. Hello. It looks like Reina may have Discoid Lupus Erythematosus (DLE). It is common in her breed. It is an autoimmune disease of the skin that causes loss of pigment and scaling (usually around the nose first) and worsens with exposure to UV sunlight. Several problems can cause irritated nasal planum. However, especially in herding breeds other immune disorders such as discoid lupus, pemphigus, or zinc deficiency can also cause these signs. I typically treat with oral antibiotics for 3 weeks and if it’s not resolving then I biopsy the nose for a diagnosis. Good luck and I hope it heals soon!
