What's causing my German Shorthair Pointer's nose to peel and scar?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shorthaired Pointer (duplicate) | Female | 2 years and 2 months old | 50 lbs

Our german shorthair pointer's nose has been slowly getting worse and worse peeling on this seeming scar we can't figure out where it came from. We're concerned about what's causing it. It doesn't cause her any harm and she's not bothered by us touching it at all it just seemes like a scar that's getting larger

Hello.

It looks like Reina may have Discoid Lupus Erythematosus (DLE). It is common in her breed. It is an autoimmune disease of the skin that causes loss of pigment and scaling (usually around the nose first) and worsens with exposure to UV sunlight. A biopsy is needed to make a definitive diagnosis. I would suggest you take her to your vet for an exam and to talk about the biopsy so you can get a diagnosis and to talk about treatment options. Here is a link for you to read about DLE:

I hope this helps. Best wishes to you and Reina.
