My dog has a new bump. What could it be and should I be concerned?

It is very hard to give advice without seeing the lesion. Can you please post again with some photos? The best I can tell you without seeing it is that any new lumps/bumps on your dog should be examined by your vet.

Hi, It is hard to know without photos what these bumps could be. You can submit a new question and try to upload photos to give us a better understanding of these bumps. But taking a guess, it could be bug bites if Mario has been spending time outside. Mosquitos even find their way in the home so they could be bug bites, in grown hairs, pimples or sebaceous cysts. All of these are of no great concern and should resolve within the next week or two. As long as Mario is acting normally and they are not irritating him, I would not be concerned. Although a pic would help to determine the underlying nature of the lump, This kind of lump/growth needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a definitive and specific answer. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration). Differentials include skin cysts, infections, benign or more sinister type of tumors. Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Is that supposed to be the same growth in both photos? The growth if the first photo looks suspicious for a malignant tumor. The tissue around the mass is swollen and the mass itself is raised and ulcerated; both can be signs of a malignancy. I cannot tell you for sure though just by looking at a photo. The second photo looks like a benign wart. In general, any new lumps/bumps should be examined by your vet. The first photo looks worrisome and I think you should have it checked in the next few days.

This may be a pimple (little abscess), cyst or a tumor. You should have it examined by your veterinarian as tumors should be removed ASAP. An abscess can usually be treated with antibiotics and/or be lanced, and a cyst can be evacuated. Your vet may want to do a fine needle aspirate (he takes some material from the bump with a needle and then looks at it under the microscope) to determine whether the mass is concerning. Since this is obviously bothering your dog (it looks like Bentley is licking it), I would have this examined very soon.
