Why is my dog constantly pawing at its mouth? What should I do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 3 years and 1 month old | 28 lbs

My dog is constantly pawing at his mouth. This happens every second. I tried looking at her gums to see if there was any bruises, but, there wasn't any. Please help me with the best answer. Thank?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This may be due to something affecting the mouth such as dental disease, inflammation or even a growth causing discomfort. I recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check what is going on so that therapy can be started. Best of luck!
