My pregnant pug miscarried. What are the next steps for her care?

The puppies are either reabsorbed into the body or the dog will pass them. If she was almost full term you can take her to the vet to check for any puppies still present in the uterus with an X-ray. Causes of miscarriage are: uterine infections, brucellosis, genetic issues with the puppies, other viral or bacterial infections and medications Snoopy may have received during pregnancy. If she is sick she should see a veterinarian. Any puppies that are full term and remain in the uterus will cause her to be sick. I wish you the best!

I recommend a vet visit to make sure that she doesn't have any retained placentas or another dead pup inside. Both these conditions can set her up for life-threatening infection. If she is eating and drinking normally, and does not have a high temperature, she is likely ok.

Unfortunately, there really is not much you can do at home if she is bleeding a lot and has retained fetuses. She is going to need veterinary care to treat her problems. If there are more puppies and no progression of labor at this point then she needs to be seen by a vet. They have medication to give her to stimulate further contractions to continue the process. They can also X-ray her to see how many are there or do a c section if needed Since she didn’t take care of the precious puppies it is best to not let her have any puppies and bottle raise them yourself then get her spayed

There is a chance that the other puppies died as well. Take her temperature and if it is above 38.5C please Take Honey back to the vet. If there is a fever, she has infection which likely is caused either by dead puppies or by an infection that caused the miscarriage.

The best way to know if the pups are ok is to ultrasound the remaining pups and count the fetal heart rates. If mom is eating and drinking and resting ok, she is probably fine. I would find a vet who can do ultrasound and check those fetal heart rates.
