My dog with lymphoma has oozing skin ulcers. Does he need antibiotics?

Based on previous diagnostics I would proceed with a biopsy ( a larger sample) as well as a culture and sensitivity. If there is growth on the sample, I would proceed with a longer duration of antibiotics as indicated. It may be worthwhile in the interim to start a low dose of steroids to reduce any inflammatory/allergic response, but I would only start after collecting a good biopsy and culture. This could be an infection, but it is also possible that it is a type of neoplasia like lymphoma or mast cell and a larger sample is likely needed to determine.

I would be concerned that this lymph node enlargement potentially represents lymphoma. Hopefully one of the vets in your area can do a fine needle aspirate or biopsy of the node to see whether this is indeed cancer, or perhaps an infection that is not responding to the particular antibiotics being given. I would also consider a biopsy of the ulcer on the lip, as that may be a cancerous process which is causing secondary lymph node enlargement.

Hello. When you say Wall Barley, are you talking about a Warble? This is a fly larvae that is laid by a fly in a scratch or cut in the skin. It does not present as you describe. If your ointment seems to be helping, then continue this. It is a good combination of a steroid, antibiotic & fungal medication. If the lesions continue to reoccur, you may need to have a biopsy of the skin & active lesions to diagnose the underlying problem. Place an e-collar (cone) to prevent licking. Keep the area clean and dry. A dab of a triple antibiotic ointment once or twice daily may help. Monitor for swelling, discharge or discomfort associated with the area. Ideally, he should be examined by your veterinarian. Since the skin is broken, he is at risk for infection and may need antibiotics. If he is painful, your vet can prescribe or dispense a pain medication also.

Poro Bartly! Skin ulcers require medications from the vet to treat, so I would have him seen by a vet for these medications. In addition, skin ulcers are a sign of underlying disease or infection, so it's best to have a health check done on him as well. Take him in first thing Monday for it.

The tumor has become very ulcerated and necrotic. It needs to be removed, likely by a specialist. In the meantime, she should wear a cone to prevent licking and a t-shirt to prevent it from rubbing on the ground. She may need antibiotics to treat any underlying infection and pain medication.
