Should I worry about lumps near my dog's neuter site after surgery?

This sounds like he may be having a reaction or mild infection from the knot in the suture. If the rest of the incision is healed I recommend gently cleaning the bump with hydrogen peroxide. Sometimes it will break open and a small amount of fluid will drain then it will heal. As long as he’s feeling fine give it a few more days to improve. I am concerned with how this looks, it's quite red and swollen. It looks like the area may be infected. Without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain what is causing it, but he should see a vet for it. The vet can diagnose this bump and treat it. I'd take him into the vet in the morning. It’s normal to have a bit of scrotal swelling in the first few days after the neuter, but 9 days later it would be unusual for this to appear, unless Willie has been more active than he should. If those lumps are small then I recommend keeping him quiet (no off leash play, and short leashes walks) for a few days and monitoring. If the lumps are large, noticeably growing, painful, draining, or bruised then I recommend rechecking with your vet to make sure he doesn’t need to start oral antibiotics or anti inflammatory medication. These bumps could be skin irritation from the antiseptics used to clean his skin or they could be irritation from the clippers. I'd keep an eye on them for now, and if they get worse, spread, or start to both him, have him seen by a vet. I hope this helps.

It doesn't appear that there is much swelling other than between the sutures here, and I don't see any discharge/leakage from the incision. If he is acting normally/normal energy and there is no leakage from the area I don't think this is an emergency, but I would recommend getting it looked at in the next day or so. He could be having a suture reaction which can cause inflammation/irritation to the incision site. I would put an e-collar on him at all times if he doesn't already have one, to prevent him from causing any trauma, and you can put an ice pack over the area to decrease swelling- just be sure to cover it with a cloth because the incision can't get damp/wet. If you don't want to drive back to Banfield, any vet office should be able to examine the incision, they will just want to charge an exam fee, which may be worth it so you don't have to drive so far!

I'm suspicious of a couple of different reasons for this type of mass that you are describing: 1) Possibly from a vaccine - it's common to vaccinate at the time of surgery and this may be where the vaccine was given. It's common for there to be a little lump there for a week or two after vaccinating. 2) A lymph node - This is about the location of the axillary lymph nodes. These can normally increase in size after procedures and vaccination. As long as Preston is not having any other issues, I think it will be fine to just monitor this mass. If it grows, or has any other dramatic changes, then it will be best to take him for a recheck exam by the vet who did the surgery. Otherwise, it's possible that this will go down in the next couple of weeks. I hope that helps and all is well with Preston.
