Red bump with dark center on dog's neuter incision 7 days post-op?

I am concerned with how this looks, it's quite red and swollen. It looks like the area may be infected. Without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain what is causing it, but he should see a vet for it. The vet can diagnose this bump and treat it. I'd take him into the vet in the morning. If he was neutered recently or in the last few weeks and the blister is by the old incision it could be a suture reaction. There are many reasons for red skin bumps. You can gently warm compress the bump twice daily. If you can post a picture it may help. Otherwise get it checked by your Vet if it doesn't get better

These bumps could be skin irritation from the antiseptics used to clean his skin or they could be irritation from the clippers. I'd keep an eye on them for now, and if they get worse, spread, or start to both him, have him seen by a vet. I hope this helps.

This is a pustule probably from a buried suture knot. The suture is absorbable but it takes several months to dissolve and sometimes the knot can cause irritation and a small infected pustule. I recommend taking Patti to your veterinarian and they can feel if there is suture left in the incision. It can be removed now that the incision is healed. Generally when the pustule is opened the knot is exposed and can be cut off and removed with suture scissors. Then the skin will be cleaned and it should heal up quickly once the knot is gone. This appears to be healing just fine. I suspect this is a mild reaction to the stitches under the skin. This is very common. I would only be worried if it opens up and starts draining fluid, gets much larger or becomes very red. Just make sure she cannot lick it until it is completely healed.

The incision appears to be closed, although it isn't a pretty incision, it is functional. : )There is one area that has a pustule (infected pocket) there, but it should heal with the antibiotics that he is on. This is a common thing that occurs in pets that have a mild reaction to the sutures or staples placed, nothing serious to be concerned about at this time. So far, this looks to be healing appropriately. : ) Keep an eye on the pustule there, it may rupture, and if it does just wipe it with a clean dry towel and make sure the incision does not get wet in any way. Also ensure that Waffles keeps his e-collar on at all times to avoid him getting to the incision and potentially taking out staples, which could cause this to open up. With the antibiotics on board, the incision and pustule should heal completely by day 10. Keep an eye out also for any profuse drainage, separation of the incision line, or increased redness, and get this rechecked by your vet sooner if seen. For now, things look quite stable. : ) I hope that Waffles continue to heal well post neuter. Best of luck and take care.
