My dog has a lump near his genitals leaking fluid. Is it serious?

Hello. This looks like a possible infected hair follicle of sebaceous gland infection. It is probably not dangerous, especially since your dog is still quite young. I would gently clean the area with something like Hibiclens ( available at all pharmacies ) & if it seems to be getting worse, bothering your dog, or begins to ooze, please see your vet as soon as possible. I would not be immediately concerned but would continue to watch for any changes. This does just look like a small pimple or blocked oil gland but continue to monitor for any signs of infection such as heat, redness or pain which would indicate a sooner visit may be required.

Hi there, I’m sure you are worried about Ben. It is common at that age to develop masses/ lumps. What you describe makes me hopeful that it is either a cyst or a lipoma which is a benign fatty growth. However, there are other more concerning possibilities. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian soon. They will likely discuss doing either an aspirate or a biopsy to decide if this is something to be worried about or not. It looks like it is most likely an abscess, or pus filled pocket. Possibly from a bite or puncture wound? Without seeing and feeling it I can’t rule out the possibility of a tumor but at 9 months old that would be unlikely. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. In the meantime warm water and Epsom salt compresses can be helpful.
