My dog stepped on something and is limping. What should I check for?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 3 years and 7 months old | 14 lbs

My dog was walking and stepped on something, my daughter pulled it out. Now she is limping a little bit but otherwise acting normally

A puncture wound to the foot would be expected to be uncomfortable for a while but I recommend you monitor closely for any heat, swelling or discomfort in the leg which may indicate infection or some foreign material still remaining. Bathing in warm salted water may help reduce the risk of infection
