My dog had a seizure and is now limping. What could be wrong?

Possibilities include soft tissue injury (such as a muscle sprain), fracture, bone tumors, cranial cruciate ligament tear (if it is a hindlimb), etc. Limping is not something that is associated with seizures and it does not tend to be life-threatening. It is though an indication of pain and warrants further investigation to ensure Danny's comfort. I recommend that you have Danny evaluated by your veterinarian so that the pain can be localized and further diagnostics pursued to direct therapy at the specific cause. At the very least, pain control/anti-inflammatory medications can be started to make him more comfortable. Sometimes if it just a soft tissue injury, it may improve just with rest. The fact that he cannot use his legs is very concerning as that could be the result of the seizures or be unrelated. I highly recommend that you have Max evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment. Diagnostics that will be recommended will include bloodwork and advanced imaging such as an MRI. Yes it could have been from a seizure or a bad dream. As long as Lola is normal now I would monitor her to see if this happens again. Dogs who have seizures more than once monthly or who have severe seizures should be put on anti seizure medication to prevent brain damage. Since you are not sure if this was a seizure I would write it on your calendar so if you see this again you know how long between episodes to share with your veterinarian. I do like to check blood work and do an exam before putting dogs on medication. Hopefully Lola just had a bad dream and this won't recur. It sounds like a small stroke, it could be vestibular disease as well, i would recommend taking him for a checkup today, he should be evaluated to make sure his neurological condition is not damaged.

Shaking or muscle tremors, difficulty walking and seizures can be a sign of neurologic disease in the brain. There are many infectious and inflammatory diseases that can cause signs like these. Severe liver disease or low blood sugar could also cause neurologic signs. I would recommend seeing your veterinarian if you have not already had Bobby examined. They can check blood work and may recommend testing for some infectious diseases. Often referral to a neurologist for an MRI and sampling spinal fluid is necessary to get a diagnosis, but there may be some treatments your veterinarian could recommend before more testing.

Usually small breed dogs require to be fed throughout the day every 6 hours or so. However, this could also be due to something else like a toxicity of some kind. You can also have transient deficits in the post ictal (after -seizure) period that may resolve. You should bring your pet to a veterinarian for evaluation. Certainly seizures can be the result of a toxicity but, they may also be due to metabolic problems or primary neurologic issues. in addition, if he is having continual problems, there maybe treatment needed.
