My epileptic dog had a seizure, now can't use back legs. What to do?

You can also have transient deficits in the post ictal (after -seizure) period that may resolve. You should bring your pet to a veterinarian for evaluation. Certainly seizures can be the result of a toxicity but, they may also be due to metabolic problems or primary neurologic issues. in addition, if he is having continual problems, there maybe treatment needed. I hope he is ok!

I would recommend a veterinary visit especially now that we have a history of seizures. Your veterinarian can palpate Ryleigh’s leg to determine if there is anything with her leg. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Gus. I suspect that the new seizure medication has interfered a bit with his coordination. This is common when starting a seizure medication. In his case, it has likely exacerbated underlying joint disease. So I think his problem is a result of both the drug therapy and his joints. The effects of seizure medications become less pronounced as the animal becomes used to it over a week or two. He could also try another drug to see if he has less side effects. However, with his size many drugs might be cost prohibitive. It would be a good idea to take x-rays. If he has joint disease, it is best to treat it as soon as possible. Typical therapies are weight management, joint supplements and anti-inflammatory pain medication. I hope this information helps!

Unfortunately, this sounds like a serious condition that needs to be seen by your vet again right away. If your regular vet couldn't help, seeking out another vet in person, or a specialist such as a neurologist may be a good idea to see what is going on with the puppy. Using aids such as a towel under the belly may help with walking and getting around, however the seizures are worrisome and need care in person.

It sounds like a small stroke, it could be vestibular disease as well, i would recommend taking him for a checkup today, he should be evaluated to make sure his neurological condition is not damaged.
