My dog lifts head back, licks air, seems paranoid. What's wrong?

This sounds like a form of seizure activity. I recommend taking videos of this behavior and taking him in for an exam and lab work. Seizures can be from many causes and he may need medication to control them. They also can be an indication of underlying medical problems so bring him in soon for an exam and treatment. There are a few reasons that kind of behavior can start. Some are benign and do not cause any problems, but some are more serious. I would recommend keeping a journal of the frequency of the episodes and taking video of the episodes. Then I would recommend having Sharky's veterinarian examine him and watch the videos. We can sometimes see partial seizures occur as licking which your veterinarian may be able to determine from the video. They may also do blood work to look for other causes. Good luck! However, I worry about the eye movements you have described. This can indicate a neurologic condition. Her veterinarian will examine her and determine how best to treat her. This behaviour could be related to a neurological problem (especially licking the air). Certain type of seizures can lead to this type of behaviour but a video of the episodes should be ideally analyzed before any final verdict can be given. This sounds like it could possibly be a seizure type of event. I would highly encourage you to video tape/ record the next event and then have her seen by a veterinarian. Hi there. This sounds more like a focal seizure, or some abnormal activity in her nervous system. Not responding to any stimulus indicates that her nervous system is overloaded and she cannot respond. The length of time the episodes are lasting is also concerning. I would recommend finding a veterinary neurologist to take her to. Your local vet may be able to make a recommendation.
