My dog licks her lips around cats. Will they get along over time?

I would be concerned though if he is causing himself any skin lesions or wounds from the licking which in that case it could be from allergies and should be addressed. This is sometimes seen as a display of submissive behavior. I recommend you discourage this behavior as much as possible but I would not be concerned about this. Good luck!

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your question. This is likely just behavioral and is commonly seen in young dogs / puppies. Over time, this Behavior will likely resolve or greatly reduce. you can try and apply bitter apple to the areas where Preston likes to lick and see if this helps deter her from doing this behavior. You can also use a spray bottle filled with water and lightly Spritz Preston in the face whenever she licks you and say “off!” while spraying her. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Hi there and congratulations on your new baby! How exciting. It can be normal for a dog who was otherwise the center of attention before the baby arrived to be a little confused and perhaps uncertain of the new member of the family. Suddenly there is something new in the house that cries and makes strange noises! This can be unsettling for a dog who has never encountered a new born or a baby before. The good news is, she will get use to it and adapt. It sounds like she already is as evident with the licks on the arms and legs. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! She may like the taste (saltiness) of your skin or she is grooming you like she would another cat. Excessive licking, more so in dogs, can be a sign of nausea. If she is eating, not vomiting and having normal stools I wouldn't read too much in to it. I would limit the behavior though. Cat bites can spread bacteria, but if there are not wounds or breaks in your skin you should be fine. Just wash your hands after. Have a good day

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Lip licking is a clear sign of nausea. I would be concerned about mostly a gastrointestinal obstruction or dietary indiscretion. You can watch closely for signs consistent with these conditions such as abdominal pain or discomfort, vomiting and/or inappetence and have him evaluated right away if noticed.
