My female dog has a red stomach lump she keeps licking. What's wrong?

Hi. This is a very big mass. If it is firm and painful, this is concerning in an unspayed, older pet is cancer unfortunately. Besides a cancer, other possibilities include infection, cyst, lipoma, a benign mammary tumor, hernia, etc. She should be fully checked out and have the mass sampled to get an answer. The sooner the better in this case.

This could be a growth and in a dog Blondie's age, there is a chance it could be malignant. It does appear to be bothering her if she gets defensive when you try to look at it and is licking it. I'd have her seen by a vet for it this week. I hope this helps!

Yes, I would be worried about Loca. In a senior dog, a large lump could potentially be a malignant tumor. Bloody nipples are also not normal, and she could have hurt herself or may have mammary tumors causing the bloody nipples. Best thing to do is have her seen by a vet in the morning. This actually looks like a mammary tumor (breast cancer). Very common in female dogs that have not been spayed. You need to take her to a vet for an exam as soon as you can to have that checked. That area could be a ruptured abscess, a ruptured cyst or the previous home of a worm larvae. You can continue treating it like you are. Make sure Eleven wears and elizabethan collar at all times to prevent any licking which could make it worse. It looks like the bump is inline with her mammary chain. Intact females are prone to developing mammary tumors. Is is about a 50% chance of it being malignant. I would recommend surgical removal with biopsy. I usually recommend that the patient also be spayed at the same time to decrease the likelihood of further mammary tumor development. This lump/growth should be ideally examined by your veterinarian to have a definitive diagnosis. Your vet will examine it and possibly perform with an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy.
