My 8-month-old pug is licking a pale lump on his penis. Is it serious?

I would recommend getting it checked out by the vet within the next 24 hours, who can prescribe the appropriate antibiotics to treat the infection. Some dogs do have a protrusion above the urethral opening on their penis and it's often lighter colored than the rest of the tissue. This is normal. However, if you are noticing him licking more than normal, this often indicates discomfort. Young male dogs, especially if they are not neutered, often get infections in the prepuce and this can cause excessive licking and often an increase in discharge. Male dogs can also get bladder infections which can also cause increased licking. Since Jonesy cannot talk and tell you why this is happening, I recommend to have him examined this week. It is best to keep the area clean and dry and prevent him and other dogs from licking or chewing at the spot. If it doesn't clear up in a day or so, becomes bothersome, or affects his ability to urinate, it is best to have a vet take a look to see if there is a possible infection or other issue causing it.

That looks like a tumor on Zzzz. Any red, raised masses need to be checked out and aspirated by your veterinarian. While several benign tumors can looks this way, there is a maliganant tumor called a Mast Cell Tumor which can also look like this. Aspirating the mass is the only way to know if it is cancerous and needs to be removed. Also keep your pet from licking at it as this could lead to infection. Poor Brownie! Yes this looks inflammed and painful. I recommend using a cone to stop the excess licking of the area and taking him in for an exam of his penis and a urinalysis. He may have a urinary or prostate infection, or an infection in the sheath or on the penis. I don't want this to get worse and him to get dehydrated from not eating or drinking so please get an exam soon.
