Why is my dog licking his butt, not walking, and struggling to poop?

It sounds like there may be some irritation ongoing such as constipation or a blocked anal gland. I would prevent Benito from licking by using an Elizabethan (cone) collar and make sure he's getting plenty of water to help keep the stool softer and reduce irritation. If he's straining to go and can't, in pain, or doesn't produce any stool for over a day, I would have him seen by your vet to rule out more serious issues.

You could try giving him some canned pumpkin or medical grade liquid parafin as laxatives but if the straining does not resolve after a further 12hours he should be seen by a vet to rule out a complete obstruction - xrays may be required and in some cases enemas or even surgery is required, especially if fragments of bone become lodged

It sounds like Benji need to be seen by a veterinarian. The diarrhea may be causing the external irriation around his rectum or he may have an anal gland infection or impaction. Either something in his hind end is hurting him very badly, or your dog is showing signs of small seizures. I would video this behaviour and take the video with you to your vet ( bring thee dog also for an exam). Your vet will examine Bear, his anal sacs (they may be impacted or inflamed) and his hip and hind legs. depending on the findings he will empty his anal sacs or prescribe pain medicine for joint pain or other medication necessary to make your dog healthy again.

I think Max might have a problem with his anal glands, two scent glands located to the sides of the anus that can get impacted and turn into proper abscesses ( localised infection ). I would recommend that you have him checked over as it can be quite uncomfortable ! He will need some antibiotics and pain relief .

This behavior in Brownie can be indicative of an impacted anal sac, and the lump next to his anus indicates that as well. The anal sac will need to be expressed if it's impacted, so I would take him into the vet now during normal business hours. It's important to have it expressed before it ruptures.

Hello, sorry to hear about Bear. It sounds like his anal glands are impacted and need to be expressed. This can be a major concern if the anal gland becomes infected and leads to an abscess.
