My dog licked her hind leg sore, now it's bald. Is it infected?

It looks like Lila may have what is called a hotspot (localized area of infection). When they lick the area they can make it extremely worse very fast. I recommend taking Lila to a veterinarian to get the area clipped up, cleaned up and have antibiotics +/- topical medication. I recommend in the mean time going to a pet store and getting an Elizabethan collar for her so she stops bothering the area. This does not look like mange. From the pictures, the skin appears red and inflamed. It does look like it is infected. While this may not be a true emergency, I would recommend getting in to see your veterinarian very soon. Pookie will need the area shaved and cleaned up. Your vet may prescribe an antibiotic for this as well depending. Until you can get to your vet, you can keep the area clean and dry and use a mild soap and water to clean the wound. If Pookie is licking it, you can put on ECollar on her to prevent licking.

This could also be just a focal skin bacterial infection or secondary to an injury that has not healed, among other possibilities. You can use an e-collar to try to prevent further self trauma. I recommend that you have Tink evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and treat accordingly. Ringworm can be transmitted to humans so just in case this is what is going with Tink, wear gloves when handling this lesion. Good luck and best wishes!

Poor girl. This looks like a little abrasion. I would just make sure there is no swelling since it it hard to tell from the photo. Look at the other leg for comparison. If there is no swelling present, then you can simply clean this area with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water and then let it air dry and apply some "hot spot" spray from your local pet store. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I can see the hair loss and crusting on Marley's hip, and what looks like a small amount of hair loss on her ankle. Depending on Marley's age, a tumor may be more likely. However, skin infections, particularly with fungi are also possible. A vet can take a small sample of skin to determine exactly what is going on, and prescribe antibiotics, medicated ointments/shampoos as needed. With how severe the area looks, it is unlikely to go away on its own. You can also get Marley an E-collar or "cone" to prevent her from licking/chewing the area and making it worse. They would be able to check the extent of the wounds and see what would be best to treat them. What you can do in the meantime is use an e-collar in the to prevent further injury. You can try to shave around it and clean it. If it continues to look superficial (as it looks on the picture), you can consider applying a thin film of triple antibiotic on it in case it is just a mild infection. If it does not resolve within 1 week of starting such treatment, have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good night!
