My puppy keeps licking her paw. Is it infected or injured?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Cattle Dog | Female | spayed | 10 months and 15 days old | 35 lbs

My 10 month old pup has this on the side of her paw. She keeps licking at it and I’m not sure if it’s infected.

Poor girl. This looks like a little abrasion. I would just make sure there is no swelling since it it hard to tell from the photo. Look at the other leg for comparison. If there is no swelling present, then you can simply clean this area with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water and then let it air dry and apply some "hot spot" spray from your local pet store. Just ask an associate to help you find it in the store.
This should heal well. : ) Thanks for visiting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Take care!
