My dog licked grape seed oil. Is it toxic? What should I do?

Oh no, that wasn't good of Oakley to lick up that oil! The problem with it is that it's an oil, meaning it's fatty, and too much fat isn't good for a dog. That can lead to pancreatitis, which is a medical emergency. He is a good sized dog, and if he didn't ingest a lot, it may not be a problem, but it could be a problem. I would feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice instead of his regular food for a couple of days, and keep an eye on him. If you see any vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, anorexia, or stomach pain, rush him into a vet immediately. Especially if you see him vomiting undigested food, he has to see a vet right away. Keep in mind as well that Oakley could vomit this back up himself because the fat will be hard on his stomach. The concern with that is oil can travel down the trachea, leading to an aspiration pneumonia. If you see him coughing, sneezing, having difficulty breathing, or wheezing, have him seen by a vet right away. I hope this helps!

The oil isn't toxic, but it can cause vomiting and/or diarrhea. Some dogs can develop pancreatitis, which can cause illness that lasts for several days. If Narla is sick for more than 12-24 hours, she should get checked out by the vet. Her stools may be loose and greasy for a few days as the oil passes through.

The tiny bit will likely pose no serious risk of toxicity. Monitor for lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, a change in thirst or a change in urination. Unfortunately, an exact toxic dose for grapes has not yet been determined.

Every dog is different and 1 grape could be toxic to one dog and it could take 100 grapes to cause toxicity to the next. I recommend calling your vet for options to decontaminate Poppy. Grape jelly doesn't actually have a lot of grapes in it, but it does have a lot of sugar. You may see some GI upset in Mopsy (such as vomiting), and if you do, I would recommend withholding food and then feeding a bland diet. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.

If ingested in large quantities, they may cause GI upset such as vomiting or diarrhea. The concern would be if there were grapes on the vines that your dog could ingest. Grapes can be very toxic, causing kidney damage or failure after even a small amount is ingested. Monitor for GI upset, loss of appetite or increased thirst/urination.

I don't see any reason to be concerned at this point. I checked the ingredients and do not see anything toxic. I suggest you just monitor Petey for now and if you notice any abnormal signs in the next 24 hours then take him to your vet then.
