My dog is lethargic, whimpering, and squinting. Is he in pain?

I'm sorry to hear that Boo Boo is so sick! There signs you've described could be related to a number of issues including (but not limited to) pain, infection, constipation or other intestinal diseases, internal organ problems, or endocrine problems. It is impossible to say what the cause of Boo Boo's issues are without doing an examination on him. I strongly suggest you take him to see a veterinarian right away so he can be assessed. Blood work and X-rays may also be needed to get a diagnosis. The lump that Boo Boo has can be evaluated and if necessary a small needle sample obtained to see if it is benign or problematic. I'm concerned that Boo Boo sounds like he is in pain and will likely need pain medication. From what you describe he could have a back, neck, or hip injury. Please remember there are no safe over the counter pain medications for dogs so you will need to have these prescribed by a veterinarian. This sounds like he’s in pain. He may have eaten something that upset his stomach and has intestinal cramping. Or since he’s still a pup I’m worried he may have eaten a toy or sock that could cause an intestinal blockage. If this continues I would certainly bring him in for an exam and abdominal X-ray. Having an intestinal blockage can become life threatening without treatment. They can also give him pain medication so he’s more comfortable. This sounds serious so I wouldn’t ignore these symptoms. Seeing that Booboo is 12 years old, I would recommend having him examined by a veterinarian and have his blood tested to make sure that there are no major changes to his blood that would indicate why he is exhibiting these symptoms. He may be shivering and whimpering because of discomfort. The vomiting could be due to systemic illness or infection. The sooner he is seen by a veterinarian the better. Poor Bodie. Sometimes when they are showing these odd signs, they are in pain. It could be his neck or back hurting. Since this is so unusual for him, I would have your vet do a thorough exam on him to help figure out what is causing this weird behavior before it gets any worse. Nausea is possible by I would excpect excessive licking of the lips or drooling excessively and not willin to eat much. If you think it could be anxiety, you could try acalming collar like adaptil. The symptoms you are describing can be caused by many things and would be best to have a veterinarian perform Diagnostics to rule out different causes.
