My dog is lethargic with red discharge. Should I wait for the vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 4 months old | 53 lbs

Hello, My dog, a 1 and a 1/2 year old neutered male, has been acting more lethargic than normal as the evening progresses. He is having a hard time getting comfortable to lay down or sit, however. Also, he has a watery discharge happening that is tinged red. We saw some yellow discharge as well, but weren't able to get a good look to see if it was puss or more normal. Suggestions? We may wait to take him to the vet tomorrow evening, and he would be alone most of the day.

Hello. You do not say where the discharge is coming from, but in all likelihood, there is some infection going on. Definitely, take him to your vet tomorrow as soon as you can. He is a pretty young dog, so if he has to wait till the evening, then I'm OK with that. He will probably require antibiotics, but Jude should perk up soon.
