My puppy's genitals are inflamed and he's very lethargic. What to do?

Hello. You do not say where the discharge is coming from, but in all likelihood, there is some infection going on. Definitely, take him to your vet tomorrow as soon as you can. He is a pretty young dog, so if he has to wait till the evening, then I'm OK with that. He will probably require antibiotics, but Jude should perk up soon. When there is pus there is generally an infection. Try to clean the area with mild soap and water and flush out the prepuce as this can help. With sore legs and no appetite I would worry about arthritis either from age/injury or an immune mediated or tick borne disease. It is best to take him to the vet so they can do lab work to get you a definitive answer and start IV fluids if needed for dehydration. You can try pedialyte or Gatorade or boiled chicken and rice or yogurt or baby food to help until you can get him seen

Yes, I would recommend having him examine by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. It is hard to say for sure from the blurry photo but it appears as though the tip of the penis is stuck out of the prepuce. It looks as though Oliver has paraphimosis (inability to completely retract the penis into the prepuce) and this can be caused by a number of things. It would be best to have the veterinarian take a look at this for the most appropriate treatment recommendations. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Poor Luke! I worry he has some edema (swelling) and possibly an infection in that area. If he isn’t overweight and he doesn’t normal have this “pouch” around his prepuce then I would try to get him seen by a vet. The vet will be able to ensure his penis looks okay and there is no loss of circulation and see if he needs some anti-inflammatories and antibiotics to help it go down. I hope this helps!

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I would recommend a visit with a vet. It sounds like your puppy needs intensive care, IV fluids, possibly glucose supplementation. If he is eating and drinking and not vomiting, these are good signs, however if he is very lethargic and not moving that is concerning. To tell what is going on, what treatment to perform and prognosis, he needs more tests to determine what the cause of his illness is, so I cannot give any more specific answers. You can try posting your question again with blood results (picture of the results) along with any other information (temperature, heart rate, gum colour, how long he has been sick for, etc.). Differentials are many, from any disease that can spread systemically (causing lethargy for example) like infection, and anything that can cause pain/discomfort. The approach must be logic, A check up is needed if signs last for more than 24hours. Poor Poofy! If the lethargy and weakness continues, he should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. He could have an infection or parasite and your vet can run some tests to help diagnose and then prescribe medications to help.
