Why is my puppy lethargic with green eye discharge and swollen snout?

This is very concerning as, while her vaccinations were done on time, she is not fully protected against distemper and parvo yet. Purulent discharge from her nose and eyes are concerning as they could , of course be a simple respiratory infection, but also a sign of canine distemper. Please take your puppy to a veterinarian for an exam and some diagnostics.

A dry or wet nose doesn’t tell us a lot about their health but dogs shouldn’t have green discharge from the nose. I recommend taking him to a vet for an exam. This sign could be compatible with an upper respiratory tract inflammation/infection or possibly to a chronic rhinitis (inflammatory, allergic, infective). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed. Vomiting, diarrhea and lethargy are quite concerning in any dog, especially puppies because of the diseases they can get such as parvovirus. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. They would be able to check for this disease as well as checking for other possibilities such as intestinal worms or other infections. The sooner these diseases are diagnosed the better the outcome tends to be. At the very least, Gus can be started on anti-nausea and anti-diarrhea medications and his hydration status can be checked. It can be challenging with these little guys, especially when they are so young because they are more susceptible to disease. The eye discharge, while it looks quite gross, is not of urgent or immediate concern, but does warrant a trip to the veterinarian in the next 24-48 hours if possible. Something relatively easy you can perform is a temperature. If you have a regular digital thermometer (or can purchase one @ a local pharmacy/convenience store) you can take Rio's temperature. You can place the thermometer rectally (ideal) while using vasoline, lubricant, or mild dishwashing or hand soap - be sure the silver part of the tip of the thermometer is completely inserted (insert ~1/2 inch) into the anus. Alternatively, you can take the temperature by laying the thermometer deep under the axillary area (arpit of the front leg) on the skin and laying the leg back down over the thermometer while it is reading the temperature. If it is >102.5, it is indicates he has a fever, which is more concerning in a puppy and requires more urgent attention (either urgent care or a visit to your veterinarian in the morning). If the stools continue to become more loose, please collect a sample and bring the sample to the veterinarian when you schedule an appointment. I hope this helps...

Lydia most likely has a kennel cough which is a bacterial upper respiratory infection. Since she has green eye discharge and isn't drinking she probably has a fever. I recommend a veterinary exam to confirm the diagnoses and they will give her antibiotics. She will need to stay quiet and rest for a week or two while she recovers. If this is kennel cough it is contagious so please keep her away from other dogs until she has fully recovered. Poor Gus! I am concerned that he may be dealing with allergies or an upper respiratory infection. You could try benadryl twice a day to see if there is any improvement. If not, I would have your vet take a look at him. Your vet will be able to determine the cause and get him started on the proper meds, including antibiotics if needed.
