My dog is lethargic, dry coughing. Should I take him to the vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Basset Hound | Male | neutered | 4 years and 2 months old

My dog has been slumbering all day none stop. Very unusual for him. Ever so often he will dry cough. He is acting normal not showing pain or urgency. Any ideas of what could cause this and should i take him to yhe vets office?

It sounds like Tucker is quite lethargic. I'd keep an eye on him now since he is otherwise acting normal. If this lethargy continues tomorrow and/or he develops other signs such as vomiting, anorexia, congestion, increased coughing, respiratory difficulty, and/or sneezing, then I would take him into the vet. Best of luck, happy holidays!
